Appointment Procedures

Please follow these guidelines so that we may serve you and your colleagues in the most efficient manner possible

1. To schedule and appointment, call/SMS text message (512) 585-6698 or email scheduling@mettasound.com.

  • Same-day (called in before noon) or next-day appointments are typically available for the Austin region.
  • Please advise of any time preferences when scheduling the exam (such as doctor’s lunch hours, etc.).

2. Fill out request form, including detailed medical history, clinical signs, and pertinent laboratory changes.

3. Have patients dropped off by 9am on the day of the exam

  • For patients scheduled for an abdominal scan, it is important that they not eat the morning of the exam, and that they have a full urinary bladder.
  • Please advise your clients that a small area on their pet will be shaved in order to facilitate and adequate exam.
  • For patients receiving aspirates or biopsies, please have coagulation profiles conducted prior to the scheduled appointment.

4. On the morning of your scheduled appointment, we will call your office by 9am with a 2-hour window of arrival time, and also call approximately 15 minutes prior to arrival. Unfortunately, in a mobile setting, these times are prone to change. Please note that this should not to be used as a patient drop off time. Please have patients dropped off by 9am.

5. Brief assistance from a hospital technician will be necessary to aid in patient restraint during the exam only. The exam generally takes 10-30 minutes.

  • Sedation is not required for an exam. With some patients, however, it may be necessary in order to perform a thorough scan, or to perform guided biopsy procedures.
  • Sedation is the responsibility of the primary care veterinarian. If in doubt, please inquire as to the best choice of sedation for patients receiving an echocardiogram.

6. Preliminary findings will be reported at the time of the exam. A full report will follow within 3 to 24 hours, depending on the consult preference.

Payment can be made at the time of exam by check or credit card. Monthly billing is also available.
